Inspiring Winners of the Curves Strong Women Challenge

Curves is more than just a place to get fit. At Curves, we offer a supportive, welcoming environment for all women to reach their goals while achieving a healthier lifestyle. We all have a unique and inspirational journey to share, and in 2016, we asked members and coaches to share their personal stories with us as part of our Curves Strong Women Challenge, our way of recognizing and celebrating the women of Curves. Let’s meet our grand prize winners.


After battling high blood pressure, high cholesterol and pre-diabetic blood sugar levels, and then undergoing a hysterectomy, Curves member Deann decided it was time to take her life back. Deann, who is now medication-free and is no longer considered pre-diabetic, and has lost 58 pounds** so far since beginning her journey with Curves. “Today, I am a strong, independent woman,” said Deann.


“My ‘a-ha!’ moment finally came when I was in a dressing room at the local plus-sized clothing store, and I had to go up another size…again,” Sandra said. She joined Curves that day, and after working out regularly and sticking to her meal plan, Sandra is now 100 pounds** lighter. She credited her supportive and motivating Curves coaches for guiding her over plateaus and pushing her to keep going. “This journey has been one of discovery, as I’ve learned to push myself to succeed,” Sandra explained. “I am so proud to be healthy and strong.”


Curves member, Lori always focused on her family and didn’t think much of herself or her weight until one day when she bent over to tie her shoe and found she was gasping for air. Lori decided it was time to change her life. “One of the best choices I have made in my life was to take a chance on Curves,” she said. Now 85 pounds** lighter since she originally joined 3 years ago, Lori is proud to see her results and positive attitude inspire other women to also become healthier.


The number on the scale landed at 266 when Sheila first joined Curves in 2014, and she said it hit her “like a ton of bricks.” In her first three months, Sheila shed 27 pounds***, but suddenly her father was diagnosed with stage IV lung cancer, and a rocky year of ups and downs followed. She found comfort and support from her Curves family after the death of her father and another unexpected family death and knew it was time to make a change. Sheila quit her job of 20 years to become a Curves coach. “I’ve found my calling as I help other women reach their goals,” said Sheila.


“Curves saved my life when I needed it most,” said Erin. A college student majoring in nutrition, Erin struggled with her weight as a teenager. Tired of the bullying and her own negative body image, Erin changed her eating habits and joined Curves with her mom. “The supportive environment made me feel comfortable,” she explained. Now a Curves coach, Erin is inspired by the women around her. “Nothing brings me more happiness than seeing the look on these women’s faces as they see how strong they’ve become thanks to Curves.”


Kari struggled with Fibromyalgia and her weight, and the combination caused debilitating pain. In need of a change, she quit her desk job of 18 years. Kari has lost 30 pounds*** and is nearly pain-free. “I proudly show my before-and-after pictures so other members know that I’ve been in their shoes and that if I can do it, so can they.”
